Muntpassage
Revitalisation of shopping centre Muntpassage, Weert
The disappearance of the former V&D retail concern has been used to give a new impulse to the shopping centre, dating from the 1970s. Despite a thorough renovation in the 1990s, it lacked an obvious connection with the surrounding shopping area. The design is characterised by a high, glass-covered shopping street that connects the Nieuwe Markt with the passage and name giver of the shopping mall; de Oude Munt. This monumental building in Mosan Renaissance style has served as inspiration for the revitalisation of the shopping centre. The new facades are constructed of brick masonry with frames and details in natural stone. The difference in brick and detailing between the two building parts on the Nieuwe Markt give diversity and a self-evident appearance
