maison village
transformation into living room of noorbeek with 4 hotel rooms
The national monument located at the Dorpstraat in Noorbeek consists of two seperate volumes; Dorpstraat 4 and 6. Situated near the main road, close to the central town square "De Pley", the buildings formerly housed the town Hall, and were also used as patrolmans house, guesthouse, and dwelling. The newly designed Maison Village includes four luxorious hotel rooms and a living room; a meeting spot for the elderly of Noorbeek. The extension with gable roof at the rear of the building is built up with a traditional brick. However, by using a unique brick format, slim steel window frames, a seamed aluminium roof and by excluding brick joints, the building becomes contemporary. The space between the existing volume and the newly added extension forms the entrance to the building, where a large glass pivoting door leads to the main hall. This hall connects to the living room and kitchen, used by the guests as breakfast hall. The hotel rooms on the first and second floor are spacious and by showing authentic existing elements such as the existing wooden beams and masonry walls, the rooms feel unique, pleasant and cosy. All four hotel rooms are unique, but are in the same palette. This is achieved by using similar materials, colors and custom designed bed- and tv-furniture.
